Local search is now two races at once: ranking in the Google Maps pack, and getting named when someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for "the best roofer near me." This guide compares the tools built to track both: what each one does, how it charges, and what it really costs to keep your data fresh.
We compare 11 tools across three categories. AuraLocal is our product, so we've linked every competitor's pricing to its source and named the cases where another tool is the better buy.
The short answer: the best tool for each need

How to choose: three types of local tools
Most confusion in this market comes from comparing tools built for different jobs. They fall into three groups:
- 1Geo-grid rank trackers show where you rank on Google Maps from many points around your business, as a heatmap. Local rankings change from street to street, so one rank number at your front door hides most of the picture. (What is geo-grid tracking?)
- 2All-in-one local SEO suites bundle rank tracking with citations, reviews, listings and audits. Tracking is one feature among many.
- 3AI visibility trackers check whether ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools mention your business. Some are built for local businesses in specific cities; others are built for national brands. (AI visibility vs rank tracking)
Several tools now cross these lines. AuraLocal, Local Falcon and Local Dominator all add AI tracking to geo-grid tracking, for example.
What to compare before you buy
- How you pay. Most grid trackers sell credits, where one credit checks one point on the map. A 7x7 grid costs 49 credits per keyword, every time. Flat-priced tools charge per business instead.
- How often you'll update. This is the number that decides your real cost. Checking 10 keywords once a month is cheap on any tool; checking them every day costs 30 times as many credits.
- Whether credits expire. On many plans, unused credits disappear at the end of the month.
- Grid control. Sizes, radius, and whether you can move the grid or single pins to check a specific area.
- AI coverage. Which AI tools are checked, how, and whether it's a live check or an estimate.
- What happens after the report. Some tools stop at measurement. Others help you fix the profile, publish posts and reply to reviews.

Geo-grid rank trackers
1. AuraLocal: best for daily tracking and fixing your profile in one place
AuraLocal tracks rankings on a 7x7 grid of 49 checkpoints and keeps the work that follows in the same tool. You can move the whole grid to any area, move single pins and re-check them, and click any pin to see the top 5 competitors at that spot. Around the tracking sit a 100-point profile audit with a ranked fix list, post scheduling, photo uploads with geotagging and one-click photo-to-post, AI review replies, and AI visibility checks on ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools.
- Pricing: flat per profile with 10 keywords each, refreshable every 24 hours. $39 (1 profile), $59 (10), $139 (30), $239 (60), $379 (120).
- Watch out for: a single 7x7 grid size, a 10-keyword cap per profile, no Apple Maps, and no PDF exports yet.
- Best for: businesses and agencies that want daily data at a predictable price, and want to act on it without switching tools.
2. Local Falcon: best for the deepest geo-grid data
Local Falcon is one of the best-known geo-grid trackers. It offers ten grid sizes from 3x3 to 21x21, Google Maps and Apple Maps tracking, and AI visibility scans that sample ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Grok across the grid.
- Pricing: credits, one per grid point. $24.99/month for 7,500 credits up to $199.99 for 63,150; enterprise from $499. Monthly credits expire.
- Watch out for: daily tracking gets expensive fast. Keeping 10 keywords updated daily on a 7x7 grid uses 14,700 credits a month per location.
- Best for: analysts who want maximum grid flexibility and scan weekly or less.

3. Local Dominator: best for credits that roll over
Local Dominator is a credit-based geo-grid tracker with GBP tools, white-label reports and scheduled scans on every plan.
- Pricing: $39/month (5,000 credits, 1 profile), $59 (15,000), $97 (36,000), $197 (81,000), $399 (178,000). Credits roll over on Pro and above. AI tracking is a paid add-on.
- Watch out for: on the two cheapest plans, unused credits expire.
- Best for: agencies with uneven monthly scanning who want to bank unused credits.

4. Local Viking: best for GBP posting with grid tracking
Local Viking is primarily a Google Business Profile management tool, with post scheduling, listing protection and GeoGrid tracking built in.
- Pricing: $39/month (1 listing, 7,500 GeoGrid credits) up to $200 (32,400 credits). Keyword and GeoGrid credits cap how much you can scan.
- Watch out for: no free trial, and the grid is secondary to posting.
- Best for: agencies whose main deliverable is GBP posting and listing management.
- Compare: AuraLocal vs Local Viking · Local Viking alternatives · Local Falcon vs Local Viking
5. Whitespark Local Ranking Grids: best for cheap occasional scans
Whitespark sells its geo-grid tool separately from its traditional Local Rank Tracker, so you can buy only the grid credits you need.
- Pricing: from $10/month for 2,000 credits, falling to about $0.003 per credit at higher volumes. 200 free trial credits.
- Watch out for: unused credits expire each billing period, and grid tracking and list-based rank tracking are separate products with separate subscriptions.
- Best for: occasional checks on a small budget, or teams that only want grid data.
- Compare: AuraLocal vs Whitespark · Whitespark alternatives · BrightLocal vs Whitespark
6. GMB Everywhere: best free tool for quick GBP research
GMB Everywhere is a Chrome extension that overlays audit and research data on Google Maps, including competitors' business categories. It's a research tool rather than a rank tracker, and many local SEOs use it alongside one.
- Pricing: free tier with limited monthly use; paid plans unlock unlimited use.
- Best for: spot-checking competitors' categories and profiles while browsing Maps.
- Compare: AuraLocal vs GMB Everywhere
All-in-one local SEO suites
7. BrightLocal: best for citations, reviews and audits in one platform
BrightLocal is an established local SEO suite covering rank tracking with a local search grid, citation building, review management, listings and audits. It's a common choice for agencies that deliver citation and reputation work alongside rankings.
- Pricing: three tiers for one location: Track $39/month, Manage $49 (adds listings management) and Grow $59 (adds reputation management). Prices rise with each location bracket, and citation building is billed separately. Annual billing saves about 25%. 14-day free trial.
- Watch out for: costs scale steeply as you add locations, and citation building is an extra.
- Best for: agencies whose clients need citations, reviews and listings managed, not just tracked.
- Compare: AuraLocal vs BrightLocal · BrightLocal alternatives · BrightLocal vs Semrush
8. Semrush Local: best if you already use Semrush
Semrush Local adds GBP management, review tools and the Map Rank Tracker geo-grid to the Semrush platform.
- Pricing: from $30 per location per month (375 Map Rank Tracker credits) up to $60 per location (1,225 credits), on top of a core Semrush plan, which starts at $139.95/month.
- Watch out for: the included grid credits are small. 1,225 credits cover 25 scans of a 7x7 grid a month, about one keyword checked daily for under a month.
- Best for: teams already paying for Semrush who want local data in the same login.

AI visibility trackers
AI visibility tools split into two groups, and picking from the wrong one is the most common mistake local businesses make.
Local AI visibility asks: when someone in your city asks ChatGPT for "the best plumber near me," are you named? AuraLocal and Local Falcon both run these checks alongside their map tracking, and Local Dominator sells AI tracking as an add-on. (Best AI visibility tools for local businesses)
Brand AI visibility asks: how often does an AI tool mention your brand across hundreds of industry questions? These tools are built for national brands and software companies, priced by the number of prompts tracked.
9. Otterly.AI: cheapest brand-level monitoring
Otterly.AI is widely cited as the lowest-cost entry into brand AI monitoring, from $29/month for a small set of tracked prompts across several AI platforms. It's simple by design.
- Best for: small brands and solo marketers starting to measure AI mentions.
- Compare: AuraLocal vs Otterly.AI
10. Peec AI: mid-market brand analytics
Peec AI offers deeper competitor benchmarking and daily tracking for marketing teams, with entry plans under $100/month and higher tiers for more prompts and AI models.
- Best for: marketing teams and agencies tracking brand visibility across many prompts.
- Compare: AuraLocal vs Peec AI
11. Profound: enterprise AI visibility
Profound is the best-funded company in the category, aimed at large brands, with most pricing quoted through sales.
- Best for: enterprise brands where AI answers drive significant revenue.
- Compare: AuraLocal vs Profound
Which group do you need?
If customers find you by searching for a service near them, you need local AI visibility, checked for your city and service, next to your map rankings. Brand-level tools don't check what AI recommends in a specific neighborhood. If you sell nationally and people ask AI to compare brands, a brand tool fits better. What daily tracking really costs on each tool
Starting prices are hard to compare because most tools sell credits. So we priced the same job on every grid tracker: 10 keywords on a 7x7 grid, updated every day for 30 days. That's 49 points × 10 keywords × 30 days = 14,700 credits per business per month on credit-based tools.
| Tool | 1 business, updated daily | 10 businesses, updated daily |
|---|---|---|
| AuraLocal | $39 (Starter) | $59 (Growth) |
| Local Falcon | $49.99 (Basic, 15,150 credits) | $499 (Enterprise, 159,500 credits) |
| Local Dominator | $59 (Advance, 15,000 credits) | $399 (Enterprise, 178,000 credits) |
| Whitespark Ranking Grids | About $50 (15,000 credits) | About $440 (147,000 credits) |
| Local Viking | $99 (Pro, 16,200 GeoGrid credits) | More than its largest published plan (32,400 credits) |
| Semrush Local | Not covered: Pro includes 1,225 credits per location | Not covered by included credits |
Two things stand out. First, on credit-based tools the price climbs with every business you add, while flat pricing barely moves. Second, the gap shrinks a lot if you update weekly instead of daily, because weekly scanning uses about 7 times fewer credits. (Cheapest geo-grid rank trackers)
How we calculated this: the cheapest published plan with enough grid credits for the job, based on each vendor's published or widely reported pricing in October 2026. AuraLocal includes daily refreshes for 10 keywords per profile. Local Viking also caps keyword credits separately. Larger grids, AI scans and add-ons would raise credit-based costs further.
See your own numbers. Run a free AuraLocal visibility scan to see where you rank across your area today, then work out what keeping that data fresh would cost on each tool.
The best tool for your situation
Local SEO agencies. Cost per client decides profitability. Flat per-profile pricing (AuraLocal) keeps that cost fixed as clients ask for more frequent updates; credit-based tools (Local Falcon, Local Dominator) give more grid options but cost more as scanning grows. → Best local rank tracker for agencies
Agencies that need branded client reports. Local Falcon, Local Dominator and Local Viking offer white-label reports; AuraLocal offers live report links clients can open without logging in. → Best white-label local SEO reporting tools
Multi-location brands. Look for one dashboard across locations, team roles, and pricing that doesn't jump with each location bracket. → Best local SEO tools for multi-location businesses
Service-area businesses without a storefront, such as roofers and plumbers, need a grid that covers the area they serve, not just their address. Local Falcon and Local Dominator offer dedicated service-area scans; AuraLocal lets you move the whole grid or single pins. → Best rank tracker for service-area businesses
Tight budgets. For occasional checks, Whitespark's $10 credits or Local Falcon's free credits go a long way. For daily data, flat pricing usually wins. → Cheapest geo-grid rank trackers · Free vs paid local rank trackers
Home services and other trades. HVAC, plumbing, roofing, dentists and law firms each have their own ranking patterns. → Best local SEO tools for home services · Best local SEO tools by industry

How we chose these tools
We included tools that local SEOs and agencies use most often for Google Maps rank tracking and AI visibility, and that publish enough pricing to compare. For each one we looked at the pricing model, the real cost of daily updates, grid options, AI coverage, and what the tool helps you do after the report. Pricing comes from vendor pages and widely reported figures, checked in October 2026; tools change prices often, so confirm before you buy.
AuraLocal is our product. To keep the comparison fair, we've listed its limits next to its strengths and named the cases where a competitor is the better choice.
Test before you commit
Most of these tools let you start free. Pick one keyword that brings you customers, run it on two or three tools in the same week, and compare three things: whether the rankings roughly agree, what each tool tells you to do next, and what it would cost to keep that keyword updated as often as you need.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best local rank tracker in 2026?
It depends on how often you need updates. For daily tracking across several businesses, a flat-priced tool like AuraLocal costs the least. For the most grid sizes and options, Local Falcon is the deepest tool. For cheap occasional scans, Whitespark Local Ranking Grids starts at $10 a month.
What is a geo-grid rank tracker?
A geo-grid rank tracker checks where a business ranks on Google Maps from many points around its location, often a 7x7 grid of 49 points. The result is a heatmap showing where you rank well and where competitors win, because local rankings change from street to street.
Why do local rank trackers use credits?
Each point on the grid is a separate search, so most tools charge one credit per point. A 7x7 grid costs 49 credits per keyword each time it runs. The more keywords, locations and updates you need, the more credits you use.
How much does daily local rank tracking cost?
For one business with 10 keywords on a 7x7 grid updated daily, expect about $39 to $99 a month depending on the tool. For 10 businesses, credit-based tools cost about $400 to $500 a month, while AuraLocal's flat pricing is $59.
Can these tools track ChatGPT and Gemini?
Some can. AuraLocal and Local Falcon check AI tools alongside map rankings, and Local Dominator sells AI tracking as an add-on. Otterly.AI, Peec AI and Profound track AI visibility at the brand level rather than city by city.
Is there a free local rank tracker?
There's no fully free tool for ongoing tracking, but several offer free starts: Local Falcon gives 100 free credits, Whitespark gives 200 trial credits, BrightLocal has a 14-day trial, and AuraLocal has a 7-day trial. GMB Everywhere has a free tier for profile research.
Which tool is best for agencies?
Agencies that update rankings often usually save money with flat per-client pricing, such as AuraLocal's 30 profiles for $139 a month. Agencies that need white-label PDF reports or API integrations may prefer Local Falcon, Local Dominator or BrightLocal.
The bottom line
There's no single best local rank tracker, but there is a best one for how you work. If you scan occasionally and want the most grid options, credit-based tools like Local Falcon, Whitespark and Local Dominator are hard to beat. If you want rankings updated every day across several businesses, flat pricing costs far less, and AuraLocal adds the profile audit, posting and review tools to act on what you find. If you need AI visibility, decide first whether you need it for your city or for your brand.
The quickest way to decide is to look at your own data. Run a free AuraLocal visibility scan to see where your business ranks across your area and whether AI tools recommend it. The 7-day trial needs no credit card.
